Tenancy Introduction

Chambers is presently recruiting

Background

Chambers has been extremely successful since becoming a specialist civil set in 2004, with the quality and volume of instructions to Chambers growing year-on-year.  We have successfully secured and retained clients who provide members with interesting and challenging work, and the coming year is promises further success.  We are committed to developing all our practice areas further by recruiting high calibre barristers who will enhance our levels of expertise and strengthen our reputation.as a first-class set.

Requirement

During the coming twelve months, Chambers seeks to expand the level and quality of its instructions.  Specifically, we seek to maintain our position as a leading set in Police Law, to expand our public law and personal injury work further, and to build on the recent success of our employment and licensing teams.  We have identified a requirement to recruit a number of civil practitioners with a proven track-record and with the potential to contribute to the growing reputation of Chambers.  While our desire is to bolster the middle and senior tiers of Chambers, we place great emphasis on advocacy skills, overall potential and personal and teamwork qualities, and would therefore consider any candidate, or group of candidates, with the abilities and attributes to enhance our practice.  We are also interested in group applications.

Why 5 Essex Court?

Located in a traditional Inn building the heart of Middle Temple, we are a highly professional, ambitious and successful set with many very high-calibre counsel.  We are among the leading sets in defendant police law, and have seven members appointed Treasury Counsel.  We place significant emphasis on teamwork and strong camaraderie, both among members and staff, and believe we are a happy set where everyone can flourish.  Down-to-earth, approachable and reliable, we have established excellent relations with clients, many of whom have instructed Chambers for many years.  We pride ourselves on the quality of our advocacy, advice and client care.  Blending the benefits of modern technology with traditional clerking skills and qualities, our strong and well established administrative team ensures a first-class service to members and clients alike.

What next?

We take the view that joining 5 Essex Court is a step towards enhanced success at the Bar, and that  the decision to join should be a relatively straight-forward one.  However, we appreciate that the decision to move Chambers is often a difficult one, and one not taken lightly.   We are keen to assist in the decision-making process from an earlt stage, and are more than happy to receive informal expressions of interest at an early stage.

Details regarding enquiries and the application process are set out within the Enquiries and Application Process page.
